What is it about?

The future of sensor-based data recognition and evaluation.

In our increasingly complex system landscape, constant optimization of processes is nowadays indispensable. Transparent management? Optimization of response time? A mix of machines from old and new generations with different types of communication protocols makes this immensely difficult for us.
A uniform line, let alone a holistic overview, is not easy to achieve.
What is needed is an industry-ready and viable core solution, a smart team of engineers and developers, and an accompanying, customized service.

And this is exactly what we offer with our Smart Sensor Integration Framework (dmc-ssi)

Functionality

One of the core tasks of the Smart Sensor System is to provide an accurate overview of the status quo of the individual machines. Only if you know the status of the machines in real time is it possible to react to them in a timely and intelligent manner.

With our framework we rely on both – the input from the machine itself and the input from additional external sensors on the machine.
This enables us not only to map the production parameters within the machine in our system, but also to incorporate and evaluate the critical factors from the immediate environment.
The collected data is forwarded via a secure data tunnel from your edge device directly to a remote manager in the cloud system of your choice.
The Smart Sensor System not only allows you to passively tap and evaluate the data streams, but you can also interact with the respective devices remotely via the Remote Manager.

Technology & Software

Security:

The figure on the right shows the data tunnel mentioned above, which is responsible for the communication between your installed edge device(s) and the cloud service linked to it.
The basis for this communication is provided by the recognized
IoT framework macchina.io, which has already been used by customers such as SIEMENS, HEXAGON, DIEHL and Continental. The edge device maintains a websocket (RFC-6455) connection to the respective server, in this case the Remote Manager, which is TLS encrypted. The server sends HTTP or other TCP requests via this tunnel to the device and the addressed edge device responds exclusively to requests via this tunnel.

Consequently, no incoming connection, from an unknown source, is possible from the outside to the edge device.

In addition, Smart Sensor Integration in particular also offers the option of integrating an extended user concept. With the help of this role and rights concept, only you can determine which of your employees or departments has access to which parts of the system.

Flexible Hardware & Scalability:

An important question that arises is, of course:
How easy is it to implement the system on new hardware?

For the commissioning of the edge devices, the respective components and bundles used are already available in a dynamic library and can be installed immediately if required.
The software components for the cloud service are also available to us as Docker files and can be installed within a short time via Docker using a single script.

Connection of sensor technology:

Interfaces already exist in the macchina.io framework for a large number of sensors commonly used in production.
These include, for example:

  • Accelerometer
  • Barcode Reader
  • GNSS Sensor
  • Gyroscope
  • Rotary Encoder
  • Magnetometer
  • “General Sensors” 
    (temperature, humidity,
    brightness, …)
  • Boolean Sensor
  • Trigger
  • Vibrationsensor

If necessary, it is possible to install a sensor of your choice, which is not yet included in our portfolio, specifically for your needs. The connection of a real sensor is done by implementing a bundle in C++. Once this process is completed, the bundle can be used on any edge device.

You still have old machines in use and shy away from upgrading them since they still serve their purpose?

No problem!
The SSI framework can communicate with a variety of current and legacy protocols, and even if the machine itself is isolated, there is still the possibility of using external sensors to obtain high-quality information and use it to draw conclusions about what is happening in the machine.
Whether relic of the past or brand new, we integrate every machine generation for you in a modern infrastructure!

Dataanalysis

Data analysis is an important tool for every company.
On the Remote Manager, the collected data can be displayed and evaluated over time.

Report

This is useful for uncovering correlations between different data streams during fault analysis. Of course, this information can be used for error prevention as well as for predicting error conditions (keyword: predictive maintenance). At this point, an alert function makes it possible to prevent an impairment of the operational process by early detection of a specific error pattern.

The dashboard also allows you to easily control the transmission rate of the data streams and configure them according to your needs. By introducing a role and rights system, employees can configure their personal dashboard view – which data is displayed in which order using which display type.
